ABOUT ME

I was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, where I grew up surrounded by sports. Whether it was cheering on the Warriors or going to Giants games with my family, sports became a constant in my life. (I will say, it also didn’t hurt that my childhood was filled with championships). Weekends were spent at volleyball, baseball and basketball tournaments, and if the TV was ever on in my house, you could be sure that a game was on… any game.

My love for art and music came just as naturally as my love for sports. My mom’s favorite artist when I was a kid was Janis Joplin, so I became familiar with Bay Area music history very young. I spent summers in Golden Gate Park, walking Haight Street and listening to (who was left of) the Grateful Dead play at local restaurant venues.

So much of who I am came from where I grew up, and I have so much gratitude for the impact the local art and culture had on my life.

I moved to the Midwest to study at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and quickly discovered my love for writing, and more specifically finding stories to tell. I jumped into writing for the Daily Cardinal Newspaper as well as hosting radio shows for the college station, WSUM. I immersed myself in the sports culture at UW, and made it my personal mission to attend as many games as possible, for as many sports as I could. At the same time, my friends and I were discovering the DIY music scene in Madison, and by senior year we ended up turning our house into a venue for college bands. So, if I missed a Friday night game, it was likely because I was at a house show.

While I never thought I’d grow to love the humid summers and frigid winters, I found a second home in Madison. It became a place where I could build my skills as a reporter, creator, and communicator. I also spent a semester of my junior year living abroad in Barcelona, Spain, which gave me new perspectives on global storytelling, culture, and creativity.

With my Bachelor’s degree in Journalism and Sports Communications from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, I continue to seek opportunities to utilize my expertise in storytelling, creative cultivation, and multimedia, while aiming to inspire others with my work. While sports, music and art were my starting point, I am looking forward to expanding my coverage as I continue to grow as a writer and creative.
